Kelly Beall is inspired by everything the world has to offer. As a talented freelancer and dedicated blogger, she believes that art and design can be found in anything. That's one philosophy she follows in every aspect of her life.
If you haven't read her blog yet, we recommend you go there right now! Design Crush has everything you could ever imagine, and if you can't find what you're looking for there, chances are Kelly has linked to it somewhere else. Have fun and go exploring.

Your “About” page says you were in advertising. What made you change to design?
I had actually always wanted to be a designer, but ended up in advertising thanks to some shoddy guidance counseling in college. I truly enjoyed the process of creating ads, but the industry could be absolutely soul crushing. I applied for a few jobs after one particularly awful agency experience and one happened to be at a design firm. The rest is history!
What motivated you to do freelance graphic design?
After leaving my last design firm job, I was just trying to make ends meet while looking for the next big thing. Freelance seemed like the natural filler and it ended up being a great fit. I love the flexibility being my own boss gives me day to day and the ability to choose the projects I'm working on at any given moment.

What does creative consulting involve?
Creative consulting involves everything from being a second set of eyes on projects to tutoring others on social media. I love being able to hop in and assist when other creatives are too close to a project, helping them decide what needs changed or why something is already perfect or satisfying. And teaching others how fantastic social media is and how best to implement it for their particular situation gets my blood flowing faster.
What inspires you most?
I wouldn't say there's any one thing that inspires me most. I like to find inspiration in the little unexpected things that can be easily looked over in the everyday. Packaging at the grocery store, vintage items at the thrift, and patterns in nature have all come into play in the past, among other things.
Do you have a favorite hobby outside of art and design?
Art and design are my work and my hobby. Ninety-nine percent of the time, whatever I'm doing is related to either or both, and I wouldn't change that for anything. You always hear people say that when you find something you love doing you'll never work a day in your life. I used to think that was all BS until it came true for me.
Do you have a life philosophy?
I'm a very fly by the seat of your pants kind of girl. I believe in leaving plenty of room for the unexpected.

You've lived in Oklahoma City for a long time, but your Twitter says you're moving to Pittsburgh soon. Why the change?
This year, I'm moving back to my hometown of Pittsburgh. I haven't lived there since leaving for college in 1998. I've got the itch for a change and am fortunate enough to be able to work from anywhere, so I thought it was high time to take advantage of that luxury. I'm looking forward to getting immersed in the creative scene that's on the rise and making a place for myself and my businesses.
What’s the best way for readers to stay updated with all that you’re doing?
The other half of my career revolves around the art and design blog I've been writing for nearly seven years – Design Crush. It's also a huge part of my income and has given me the ability to be choosy about design projects I take on. Through it I'm able to share the work of others, which is one of my biggest passions.
