When shopping for a new range, it can be hard to choose between all the options out there. Do you want gas or electric? Should you choose
smoothtop or traditional coil burners
? Should you go high-tech and look for something that utilizes induction? Two ovens or just one? All these questions and more must be answered before purchasing your next range. How do you keep track? Just check out our

range buying guide

for all the answers to your questions. This guide will help you be informed about the process of purchasing a new stove, especially if you've been out of the loop for a while.

If you're looking for a standard range that will work exactly as you'd expect it to, check into this

. It's an electric oven with a smoothtop cooktop. Its design looks smart and sleek with the
electronic controls and stainless steel exterior
. The ceramic-glass cooktop hangs over the countertop, making this slide-in range a must have for avid mess makers.

On the cooktop, you'll see
five elements
ready to help you master any recipe. Each element varies in size, and one includes the acclaimed
Power Boil
, which helps you boil liquids super fast. One element is called the
Warming Zone
- perfect for keeping gravy or chocolate warm and melted. The elements you may find most useful are the ones that create the
Bridge Zone
. The Bridge Zone is perfect for families that like to make pancakes or use griddles. The zone expands between two elements, making it easy to cook with larger surface pans and pots.

Also on the cooktop are
2 element-on status lights and 4 hot-surface status lights
. This helps notify you when the cooktop is still too hot to touch or place items on. The range's controls are electronic and give you every option available front and center. Easily set times, the clock, and cook settings.

Inside the oven, you have even more awesome features available. You have the power of
True European Convection
. Convection heat is the true master when it comes to baking and roasting items. It keeps food moist and succulent on the inside, while keeping it perfectly crisp and brown on the outside. With convection cooking comes different cooking times. These can be confusing to a newbie, so GE has added
automatic recipe conversion
when using this method to cook.

There's also a
hidden baking element
on below the oven floor, which makes for more even cooking and way easier clean-up. This oven has
4.4 cu. ft. capacity
three heavy-duty racks
to cook on. There shouldn't be an issue of space with the

. Below the oven, there's also a
storage drawer
for things like muffin and pie pans and cookie sheets.

The oven also has a
self-cleaning feature
with a delay option. You can also set the oven to
Delay Bake or Sabbath Mode
. It also has a
Fast Preheat
, so waiting around for the oven to warm up is a thing of the past.

30" Stainless Steel Electric Slide-In Smoothtop Range - Convection is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1195.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the oven, not the cook top The oven has perfect, even heating. Have made a few batches of cookies and was amazed by the uniform cooking. The cooktop is another story. If your pans aren't absolutely flat you will have problems with this stove. We have relatively new pans from sur La table and one of them must be slightly off because the burner (any burner) refuses to stay hot under it. I don't know if it's not making good contact or if it's a sensor thing with the stove. I'm not buying new pans just because one is off. I like the texture on the cookttop. How easy it is to locate what you're looking for on the control panel. Power boil does just that!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Seems fancy but problems already I bought this range for our lake house, where I was building my dream kitchen. I got all new, high end appliances. I've had problems with this range from the first time I used it. The cooktop is very very hard to clean, even minor spills. And I am used to electric cooktops as I already have one that is much older but wipes off much better. Another problem is that the burners heat unevenly. And finally, I have used the oven about 10 times and each time the temperature on regular bake is cooler than the temperature I've put in. I tested it yesterday with an oven thermometer and it's 10 degrees cooler.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Stove Overall, a good stove for the money. I find that it bakes evenly and consistently so far. The top is easy to clean and heats up very quickly. I find that this stove boils water much quicker than a previous model I had. Things I don't like about the stove are that the knobs on the front feel cheap and are not tight when you turn them. They have quite a bit of play in them. There is a learning curve to the oven controls...if you put in a temperature and don't press start then of course it won't start heating up. I have done this on many occasions only to come back an hour later and realize I never started the oven.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice looking! We have been using this oven for about two months now. It's attractive, but I discovered that while using the oven, it vents hot air out while cooking! I live in Florida and we don't need any extra heat! Also, when you are done using the oven and turn it off, a vent fan whirrs for a long time afterwards, expelling more of the hot air out into my already hot kitchen. The display at the front of the unit gets covered in food and oil splatter and needs to be cleaned almost each and every time I use the cook top! Still, I like the unit and especially the way it fits into our granite counter top giving us more counter space. Overall a decent unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quickly boils a pot of water. I have been using this stove for 2 weeks. The cooktop is terrific! Water boils quickly on ALL burners, not just the large power burner. I was used to waiting half an hour for my old oven to preheat, and then I never knew because there was no bell. This one is so fast, usually no more than 10 minutes, and it chimes to let you know it is ready. The convection oven is wonderful for baking. I really don't like it for normal cooking of things like chicken tenders. They did not get crispy using the convection. One thing to know-- the cooling fan (not convection fan) starts running as soon as the oven is turned on, and it stays on until the oven is almost completely cool. This could be as long as 1.5 hours after you turn it off.
    Date published: 2014-04-22
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful stove and value! We purchased this stove as a replacement to an existing cooktop and cabinet and as a second oven. It was a great value and has worked wonderfully since installing. A lot of the reviewers complained about the fan being too loud and having to go into the other room to speak to one another, but that is very far from the case. The fan is very quiet and you can stand right next to it and barely even know it is running. People also complained about the length of time the fan ran after turning off, but it is about normal time. If they would like it to run shorter times after shutdown just open the oven door and it cuts the time way down. This is a great stove and definitely was a great addition to our kitchen!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks good features ok We selected this range as ungrade in new home to builder's base options. Had a similar GE profile glass top range vintage 1994 in previous home. This 2015 model has more features but is not same high quality as the 1994 version. Pros: appearance, cooktop burner options, convection oven. Cons: range top burner control not as fine as older model. Oven seems to take long time to preheat, and temperature control seems not as fine as older model. Bread does not cook as evenly as previous model. Oven cooling fan runs and runs after baking. It appears that GE Profile line is not the top quality that it was 20 years ago, which is disappointing. This is a good range, but we expected better from the GE Profile name.
    Date published: 2015-08-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love having a smooth top, and a 3-rack oven! I'm always skeptical, but I've been using 3 months now and still love it. With the 3 racks and convection oven fan to distribute heat, you can cook several pans at same time. My first smoothtop and it heats so much better than the old elements. The right front burner has 3 size settings for 3 size pans, and gets hot quickly for boiling large stock pots. It cleans up easily too, which was a concern. This slide-in stove took the place of a drop-in we had, and nowadays at a much lower price (wait for the sales - they're HUGE.) There was some cutting of the countertops (1/4" on sides, 1/2"back) that we needed a sawzall for, for so worth it.
