Description

The

GE Cafe CGS990SETSS double oven range

from Goedeker's has been consistently ranked in the top slide-in ranges for years now, and with good reason! It delivers top notch cooking performance and has a host of features that will make you feel like a professional chef in your own kitchen.

On the Stovetop

  • The cooking surface has five burners total. There are two high-powered burners in the front that provide accelerated heating. One is a 17,000 BTU burner and the other is a
    20,000 BTU tri-ring burner
, with the versatility of three burners in one for greater temperature control.
  • The
    Precise Simmer burner
puts out 140 F of low heat, which is ideal for melting chocolate, preparing sauces, or fixing soup - without scorching your food.
  • In the center, there is an
    oval burner
    - or bridge burner - that can hold a griddle or any odd-sized cookware you may be using. This range even comes with a free non-stick griddle, perfect for cooking up bacon or other breakfast foods. Then after you're done, it's a breeze to clean!
  • The stove has
    cast iron continuous grates
    and a stainless steel,
    deep-recessed cooktop
that will contain spills. If your pot bubbles over, you can rest assured that it won't turn into a kitchen catastrophe.
  • To keep your home safe, there is a
    range lockout
feature that prevents the gas burners from accidentally getting switched on.

Inside the Oven

  • The double oven has
    6.7 cu. ft. total capacity
    - the largest capacity in the industry.
  • The upper oven will probably get the most use, as it is convenient to access and well-suited for everyday cooking. Whether you want to warm up a meal, cook a casserole, or make a pizza, it's got you covered. The broiling feature has also gotten good reviews.
  • With a handy
    rolling rack
    and
    convection cooking
, the lower oven is equipped for bigger cooking jobs. Need to fix a large turkey for Thanksgiving dinner? The oven can accommodate it - even birds up to 20 pounds or more!
  • Both ovens have a
    self-clean function
. It uses concentrated heat to clean the oven cavity, tackling even the toughest spills and baked-on foods so you won't have to do any scrubbing.

Other Features

  • The dials at the front operate the burners and the upper oven, while the glass touch-screen has settings for the lower oven and offers other controls that'll make your life easier, such as a kitchen timer. They are all clearly labeled and simple to use for reaching the temperatures you need.
  • This gas range is
    ADA compliant
, meaning it was built to be easily accessible and easy to open.
  • The ovens preheat in a matter of minutes and the range heats evenly and efficiently, but it will not overheat your kitchen.
  • It is well-insulated to cut down on noise from the convection fan and ensure
    quiet operation
    .
  • If you want to convert from natural gas to propane, this range comes with a
    conversion kit
    and instructions.

The GE CGS990SETSS range brings cooking performance beyond compare, no matter your needs. If you're living in an apartment in New York and short on space, it's a great choice. But if you frequently host big family gatherings, it has enough room to hold all the dishes you're preparing. It is sure to be a vital fixture in your kitchen!

This range is probably one of the best looking I've seen (and I have seen a lot). It looks fantastic in my kitchen. The stove is great, it heats and cooks really well. The griddle is a nice to have as well. The oven, however, I have had a few issues. The bottom oven seems to do great, but the top one the temperature settings seem to be off. For example, if an item calls for 375 degrees for 20 minutes to cook, it is not cooked in that time period unless I turn it up to right at 400 degrees.

Overall, I really love this range, I just need to get use to how the top oven cooks.

What better time to write a review that when you're exhausted, out of patience and have just ruined another perfectly good load of ingredients on a failed attempt in this high priced "all that" range? It's obvious after my tried and true recipes flop time and again that the temperature on both ovens is waaay out of line. I read the "biscuit test" with disbelief and disdain....really? If the biscuits aren't done, you need to calibrate? No kidding, Captain Obvious? How about you calibrate the darn thing in the factory before shipping it out? Grrr...So we find how to recalibrate, ok. Glad to find handy steps on how to do that. However, there's NO clue as to how to arrive at a true temperature other than the aforementioned "biscuit test". There's a friendly warning NOT to use a "grocery store" oven thermometer. What should I use GEnius? My HAND? Oh I know... I can bake 15 cans of biscuits adding 5 degrees to each batch times two ovens...yeah, I'll get right on that. Grrr...

Purchased this range as part of the Cafe suite and could not be happier with it. The double oven is the best, and provides two very nicely sized ovens to choose from. Just cooked a big turkey in the lower convection oven for Thanksgiving and had plenty of room for the side dishes in the upper oven. It's also terrific to only heat up the smaller upper oven for small or single items, instead of heating an entire large oven. The sealed burners are easy to clean, and the center griddle burner is perfect for pancakes or grilled sandwiches. This stove is the best I've ever owned and it looks professional, as well!

The depth dimension on the website and in the quick facts link showing 26-7/8" are wrong. The depth dimension of 29-1/4" in the installation instructions is correct.

Unfortunately a 29-1/4" deep unit will not fit in my house so it must be packed up and sent back.

I shopped for months for a new gas range and found this GE to be the best in its category. Excellent features, solid, well built, heats up quickly, and the double ovens come in handy with plenty of room inside. I have roasted a 24 lb turkey and there was plenty of room. It is a beautiful addition to my kitchen and this range makes cooking even more enjoyable. This is a minor complaint, but there are some rubber tabs that the grates sit on top the stove and a couple of them were missing when it was delivered. I asked the store to send me some, but have not received. Overall, I have had this model for a year now and I am extemely happy so far!

I also wish that the upper oven had digital controls but it is a great little oven for baking small things.

Review Title: There's something magical about this oven | Review by

We bought this oven because it was the only gas, dual oven, range we could find. I was apprehensive about the cost and rightly so but that comes with the Cafe name I think. We've had this for 7 months and we love it. We had to do a little calibrating of the upper over temp control knob - I wish they made the upper oven operat using the digital controls. But it works great and cooks wonderfully. But, back to my magical comment... People love it. They come over and just stare at it and tell us how beautiful it is. We've even caught ourselves doing the same. It just looks great. It makes my modest kitchen look like a pro's workshop. Paired with the matching microwave, it makes our entire kitchen look great. So besides the analog control knob for the upper oven, the only other complaint is the incredibly awful smell that lasts a bit too long during the burn in first use. Wow, I thought we left plastic or something in the oven. Gave me a two day headache. Open the windows and leave the house before proceeding. Grab the pet while your at it.

We recently downsized and needed all new appliances. After much diliberation we chose the GE CAFE series convection range and couldn't be happier.

I absolutely love the cooktop and the FAST BOIL burner...wow, that comes in handy! I can easily manuever pots and skillets with ease. The griddle comes in handy also for a quick burger or some griddle cakes. I love that it has a drip rim to catch drippings before they mess the stove top.

The convection lower oven is easy to operate and cooks evenly. I havent used the probe yet, but am looking forward to thanksgiving for that!

The top smaller oven has a dial control, which actually does not bother me at all, where i saw some people complained about it. It suits the smaller oven just fine. We use it a lot for pizza's or a sheet tray of appetizers or french fries. Cooks very nicely, I have had no issues with overcooking near edges or uneven browning at all.

Overall I would definetly recommend this oven...in fact my last oven was a thermador and I find this oven not only looks nicer but cooks equally as nice and has more functions than the thermador and is almost half the price!

I am glad we decided to go with the GE CAFE range instead of the mores costly ranges......I am VERY happy!!!

This is the best range I have ever used. I cook a lot and it gets put to the test. The different burner outputs are an awesome feature. The center griddle is very easy to clean so it gets used a lot more than I thought. I was concerned about keeping the stainless (under the grates) clean, but it is easier than expected. I was also concerned about removing heavy items from the lower oven. But with the roll out shelf, it is no problem. The upper oven gets used almost every day, it is just so convenient.

I cannot think of a way to improve this range. The different size cook top burners provides the perfect combination for the different requirements when cooking a meal. The very low settings are good for keeping food hot without overcooking. The controls are clear and work great.

These burners and the two ovens make cooking a pleasure.

All the controls on the front is one of the best features. (Nothing to catch splatter on the back of the range.)

The stainless steel top is very easy to clean.

I've had this range for 6 months, and I do really like it. But if I was doing it again, knowing what I now know, I would probably opt for the dual fuel version, utilizing electric for the ovens and gas for the stove top only. The ovens don't cook as evenly as I had hoped and actually we only use the convection oven. My husband's biggest complaint is that the best oven (convection) is on the bottom, which means a lot of bending way down to cook with it. So I think my choice of the dual-oven, all gas model was at fault, not the range itself.

We love our new GE Cafe double oven range. The double oven is great. We use the upper oven for heating small items and it cuts down on gas usage and doesn't heat up the kitchen as much. The stainless steel top cleans up the best of any stove we've owned. My husband loves the grille in the middle. The high output burner boils water FAST. Can't wait for Thanksgiving to use the probe with our turkey.

I love the looks of this range, but I am on the second one. First had a misaligned lower oven door and GE replaced range. I also could not get upper oven to reach correct temp or maintain it. I am having same problem with second oven. It cannot be calibrated properly. Tech has been out twice and closest we can get it is 25 degrees off and to do that it leaves the oven knob crooked. So I have to always set temp 25 degrees higher than recipes call for and it is not consistent. Bottom oven works fine...why are ovens not the same???

Review Title: Great range - Two ovens are a plus | Review by

Overall Rating

I have had this range for about two months now. So far, I think it is a great range. The burners are powerful and cook nicely once you learn to control the heat levels. I've been pleased with the ovens - everything has baked evenly. It also looks really nice in the kitchen!

The unit does run really hot. To accommodate venting, It does not sit flush with the wall either - there is about an inch to an inch and a half gap where the upper portion does not meet the drywall due to venting on the back. I contacted customer service and confirmed this gap is how the unit is designed and was not an installation error. It isn't a huge deal in my kitchen, but could be for someone else depending on how you view the range and what you put around it. You can buy the extra piece, but then you lose the slide-in look, plus it's an extra $200. The fan does run pretty consistently when the oven(s) are on too. Doesn't bother me, but it is noticeable.

For me the biggest flaw is the upper oven temperature control. It is a dial control, so you have to eyeball most temperatures when using that oven. It also would have been nice to have a "slide-out" rack for both levels in the lower oven.

Overall, this range was definitely the best option out there for me right now. It's very attractive in the space, keeps a high end look, and offers up gas cooking along with two ovens without having to sacrifice space for wall ovens. I would buy it again.

Besides the fact that it is from a USA Company, this is a well thought out appliance. Everything is where you want it, functional and easy to operate. We have had this Range for 4 months and it has performed very well. One draw back, reason for a 4 star in performance, is the warm up time of the upper oven. Takes longer for the smaller oven, than the large. A family of two uses the smaller oven more often and there fore it is more noticeable. A little pricy, but otherwise a standing ovation.

For those curious as to side color, it is black. The rest of my kitchen has grey so I wish in the description it would of stated this. I assumed (wrong on my part) that it was free standing and due to the price it was stainless on three sides. I haven't installed it yet as I am waiting to hear from GE if I can install in a slide in space. Beautiful looking though!

Good looking range. The top burners are great, top oven uses less gas. There is an actual 15-20 degree temperature difference from the knob setting for the upper oven. The left burner control knobs do get hot from the upper oven. Control panel is not backlit and makes it hard to read and is a big GE miss at this price point. The beast is heavy at 224 lbs and is next to impossible to move. This unit should be on casters or at least a better foot slider. It did scratch the linoleum when installing partly because the leveling feet are just hard plastic and it is very front heavy. The stainless is very nice looking and isn't hard to clean. AND, you will need to put 1/4" plywood under it unless you have tile floors to protect it from the lower oven heat. (Which also makes it harder to slide for cleaning under it).

Had this all-gas double oven range for 3 weeks now and have been cooking up a storm. If I have any "druthers," instead of 2 large burners in front, I'd prefer to swap the large right front burner with the medium burner at the back.

I had some concerns about the gas ovens but I made the most gorgeous lemon cake in the upper one. Huge hit with the fam.

I was surprised to find only 1 oven to be convection. I was surprised to see the upper oven control to be a knob and not like the lower oven being digital. Also i ask, why only 1 great boiling burner? We were cooking rice, steamed vegetables and gravy. All of which require boiling to cook. So why not make them all great boiling burners? Also, since there isn't really a back on it. i worry about food spilling behind the stove. It should come with a 32"x2" peice of black or polished aluminum splash guard catcher or something to help prevent that. I've tried to find one online but could only find the short ones for the sides. Anyways, great stove. my wife loves it. Happy wife, happy life. Thank you!

Review Title: Why the bad griddle design? | Review by

Overall Rating
Price
Quality
This is an excellent range for the price. I chose it because of the two ovens. I want to get rid of my toaster oven (which takes up counter space in my small kistchen and is also very energy inefficient). But the griddle is so obviously poorly designed -- so far, that is my principal disappointment. Eliminate the grooves down the side. We are not a pancacke eating household, so will use the griddle only for other cooking. We would cook scrambled eggs daily on the griddle, except that they dribble down into the side channels. What a mess to clean up. Higher-end ranges have griddles with only the front and/or rear reservoir for grease, etc.--no need for these side channels! Change it up, GE.

I have also had trouble with the oven. I will buy a thermometer and test it--so far, my recipes take significantly longer at called-for temps than in my old range. Cookies that are supposed to cook in 10-12 minutes take almost twice that long. Even when I use convection, the times are too long. Weird.

Review Title: Almost Perfect | Review by

Overall Rating

Overall this is an excellent range - ovens heat evenly and fast, burners are plenty powerful and easy to control, user interface is intuitive, and the overall design makes cleaning simple. Above all, the assembly quality, fit & finish, and materials appear to be a notch above most all consumer ranges, and actually better than some of the "professional" ranges. There are a few opportunities for improvement. First the probe thermometer function is kind of quirky - it assumes that you do not pre-heat the oven, the probe cord is really short, and when the desired temperature is reached, it shuts off the oven. You really need to make the probe so it runs in a monitor only mode, rather than default to controlling the oven. Second, the ventilation fan is pretty noisy (not the convection fan, but the one that cools the controls, etc. Third, the lower oven is really low - you need to get on your hands and knees to use it, but this is simply a trade off for floor standing double ovens. Lastly, the upper oven is a "dumb" oven and doesn't benefit from all the digital controls that the lower oven has - but it does perform well - set the temperature w/ the knob and forget it!

Lastly, the "gap" behind the oven is a little annoying - it can be reduced by about 1/2" by simply re-positioning the grommet/strain relief for the power cord. The rest probably needs to be there for air intake.

One last thing - unfortunately, it's not made in USA - but in Mexico. But probably better than some of the far-east made appliances that are starting to hit the market.

Beautiful modern touch to kitchen after new hardwood and granite. Chose Cafe for style, 5 burners and double oven for maximum flexibility during those holiday and regular extended family get-togethers. Matched this with the over the range Cafe microwave/convection unit - nice.

The wide array of cook top burners allow you to match BTUs to need - especially that monster 20k BTU tri-ring burner to get things cooking fast - and we like the big burner on the right side unlike other brands.

Only complaint - at this price 2 extension (wheeled) racks should be included for the bottom oven. It's difficult to slide the flat rack with weight and heat applied (and we're short).

Had to change gas line inlet a little because of the double oven not as much room back there as a single oven but that is to be excepted not a big deal. We have had this oven for about six months and we love it. We are empty nesters now and for every day use the upper oven is plenty but when the family comes to visit we had them both going. The top burners are great on the right front is a triple burner I forget the BTUs but wow and the long center one for the griddle that is a great feature. So far no troubles all positive. If you are looking for that something extra in a gas range this is the one. I would recommend this model to anyone.

This oven has met or exceeded our expectations is all regards. The oven fits nicely in renovated kitchen space assigned to it...not sure about the reported problem in another review I read where the unit didn't fit against back wall. Ours fits great. We needed to follow the calibration process in the manual to get the ovens to the correct temps but otherwise it was plug and play.

We slid the oven into place today, and there are areas in the back of the oven that protrude approx 1 inch that prevent the top of the oven from being flush agains the wall. There is a gaping hole behind the oven that you can see the drywall behind it.

Review Title: Love our new range! | Review by

We received the range just 3 days before Thanksgiving and it was just what we needed! We utilized the convection baking feature in the lower over to bake pumpkin pies and other baked goods a couple of days before the holiday. They came out great and the oven was so easy to use. The morning of the big day we were concerned with the size of the lower oven as we had a 22 lbs brined turkey but it fit with no problem. Using the convection roast setting at 350 degrees it was fully cooked in 3.5 hours. It turned out beautifully- skin was golden brown with just the right amount of "crunch" while the meat was tender and juicy. As our guests arrived, each with their own side dish, the upper oven became essential as we cooked or re-heated their dishes while the turkey continued to cook in the lower oven. It was a beautiful sight! In fact, we received compliment after compliment from our guests and more than one person stated "I have to get one of those for our house!" During the holiday weekend we utilized the griddle feature on the middle burner to make pancakes. It was easy to use and we're loving each new feature we utilize. The only issue so far has been the temperature of the upper oven which is off by approximately 50 degrees too low. GE is sending a repair tech to make an adjustment-- our appointment was available just 3 days after we requested service. All is all, very pleased with our purchase and would highly recommend the unit.

Like others, we spent well over a year researching slide in ranges. We really wanted 5 burners and a really large oven, so we had originally considered 36" ranges. However, we don't have a lot of room to work with, so we hated given up valuable cabinet space. We could not be happier with our selection. The double oven capacity on the GE Cafe actually is comparable and even exceeds some of the 36" ranges we were looking at. The dual oven is great for saving energy, since each oven on its own is spacious enough to fit commercial size cookie sheets with room to spare. The griddle is a nice feature that we weren't looking for but have come to love. It heats up evenly and cleans easily. We love our range and highly recommend it to others with similar needs.

I just had this range installed and it's beautiful! I made French toast on the center burner with the griddle that came with the range and it worked great.
The ovens heated up nicely, but I haven't cooked anything in them yet.
The ordering process was easy. If you're ordering under a crunch you might have a problem. I ordered during the holiday madness without caring when it arrived- it took about 3 weeks. I also ordered the installation since I wanted to make sure it was done correctly AND it's very heavy. The delivery guy was very helpful and friendly, as was the installer. And he took away my old range.
I will definitely be recommending Goedekers and purchasing from them again. This is the way shopping should be- fast, friendly, smooth transaction at a great price.

I purchased the unit a couple of months ago. It looks killer by itself, but especially coupled with a pot filler and hood exhaust. Cooks great too. Boils water fast, easy to simmer chilli for hours & I bake my kids veggie muffins in it all the time. Believe it or not, you are going to use the small upper oven WAY more than the larger bottom oven. I would think we will use that for the holidays. I

Better than expected! Have looked for quite a few years for a slide-in, freestanding range with two ovens. It is just beautiful. Love the griddle, convection oven and power boil burner. I purchased this range mostly because of the smaller oven on top, and much to my amazement, I use the lower oven (convection) so much more. Couldn't be happier.

I love this double oven range! It's a cook-top and double oven in one compact range... great for the townhouse situation. I like the trendy "pro" look of this appliance, plus the 5th burner/grill on the cook-top portion. I am over 60, with just my husband and myself to cook for, so I like the smaller oven located on top. When the family comes to visit, the double oven will be put to use. My h

Studied a lot of stoves and decided to go with this one and glad we did.

It is sleek, has a double oven, 5 burners (one in the middle great for cooking grilled sandwiches, etc) and I love the rapid boil setting and the 20000 BTU burner.

Can't wait to can this garden season as this stove will make that job faster and easier.

After researching for a gas range for almost 2 years, we settled on the GE Cafe. I really wanted 5 burners (including a griddle) and 2 ovens. This stove exceeds my expectations. It bakes so evenly and the griddle cooks so well too. I was wondering how the stainless would clean up, but it is SO much easier than a smooth cooktop ever was. The look of the range is very professional - reminds me
